Or just proof that images imprint on our retina if we stare at them for a few seconds.
When we went up to Two Harbors a few weeks ago, we stopped in a quaint little souvenir shop to buy some wild rice. The friendly old man at the till, who could not have been more of a stereotype, handed us each a small slip of paper with a featureless inkblot on it. He instructed us to stare at it hard for thirty seconds, then close our eyes. Obeying, we were rewarded with a remarkably clear image of Jesus' face hovering on the backs of our eyelids. A typically modern, Aryan representation of his face, I should say. "Because Jesus is what we need to see most in this crazy world," the man said.
