The past few days I have been craving ice - the slightly-crunchy, almost-melted slush you get from certain gas stations. I daydream about the taste of snow and the flavor of the ice I used to scrape from the top and sides of the freezer when I was a kid. Much as I am ready for winter to be over, I find myself secretly hoping for a blizzard today, so I can fill up a glass with snow. Last night I even dreamed about buying huge cups of ice at a store.
Sadly, we have no ice at home. None. Nada. Zip.
And yes, I know this can be a sign of pica or anemia. I'll mention it to the doc at tomorrow's appointment & I've already started trying to get more iron every day.
But oh, the siren song of ice calls me. I may have to brave the rain and trudge down to the student center.

I don't think that craving ice qualifies as pica, because it's not something that most people consider inedible, like dirt or tar. Plus, as long as you're not eating the yellow snow, it can't really hurt you. So munch away without worry!
Posted by: Kira at April 6, 2007 02:52 PMMaddie was my ice/snow baby. Jimmy mocked me for running across the street to the last remaining pile of snow on the block just to get a little. Some Super America's still have the old ice machines with the little ice pellets--so good. And Ikea has them in the drink machine by the checkout (the cafeteria has regular ice). It's worth a trip.

Been thinking about you a lot lately, love...I miss seeing you at the Porch.
As far as your last post (diapers), I second Carla's recommendation of chinese prefolds. We used them almost exclusively until Jonah. For Jonah, we also had some fancy fitted diapers (cuddlebuns one-size), and although they were pretty, I can't say they were really better in any way. I still have them all, prefolds and fitteds, so if you're ever in the market for gently-used, to look at/try out/keep/whatever, let me know (they're free).
You can also have either or both of my slings :) They served me very well.

I dream about ice, wake up during the night craving it, and get up at least once to eat some. I chew it all day long by the cupful. It's horrible for my teeth, but I know it won't outlast the pregnancy. I also eat salt. I don't even care why - I just do what makes me feel better.
