lovefest 2006

(props to Carla for the post title - we're seriously considering having tshirts made!)

Greetings, gentle readers. I know some of you have been bugging me for an update about my recent voyage to Madison to visit my Morgan. (Yes. My Morgan.) The delay in posting was because I needed some time to myself to process the week.

I went down on Friday, expecting to enjoy a long holiday weekend & return on Monday. The following Sunday evening I finally managed to drag myself into the car and onto the highway. Such a delightful week.

I am deeply, infinitely happy. I think back to the things I wrote about TheBoy this summer and wonder what I was thinking; the difference is as extreme as that between cheap, generic chocolate bars and fine Belgian truffles. That was enjoyable, but ultimately shallow, like a waterbug skipping from gold to green on the flickering surface of a stream. Pleasant enough for a short time, but I long for the deep, endless freedom of the ocean. I need someone who expands my world and makes me fearless and helps me to learn something new every day.

So yeah. Go buy one (or more) of Morgan's Drums so that he can move here sooner & be with me. (If you're lucky, you'll get one of the drums I helped with! Be sure to admire the fine fabric-wrapped rings!)

random crap I need

Hindu god finger puppets

7 deadly sins wristbands

nihilist chewing gum

bleak wristbands

bacon bandaids

Oh, and I must see the movie Snakes on a Plane! Why? Because of the name! Such a great concept! "On board a flight over the Pacific Ocean, an assassin, bent on killing a passenger who's a witness in protective custody, let loose a crate full of deadly snakes. "

life is good

I am deeply happy.

I woke this morning, half-expecting long-predicted rainstorms, only to find myself bathed in sunshine and God's smile.

five things

five things about myself that other people (maybe) don’t know, courtesy of Jen

1) In third or fourth grade I was accused of trying to burn down the school at recess. (I wasn't, for the record.)

2) Carpet makes my skin crawl. I'm not sure why, but I tend to find it disgusting, even if it's new.

3) I think that getting my ears pierced was one of the most painful things I've ever experienced. They hurt for 2 weeks. And the first time I took the studs out I almost passed out; my roommate had to put them back in for me.

4) I want to live somewhere isolated enough that I can walk outside naked and not worry about the neighbors seeing me.

5) I once read the Brothers Karamazov (all 800+ pages) simply because the guy I had a crush on was reading it & I wanted to be able to say, "Oh! You are? So am I!"

and she's back

I spent a lovely week and a half in Vermont playing with my adorable niece and watching her get spoiled rotten with a billion and one Christmas gifts. We read stories, she pretended to be a cat & meowed at everyone, a family tradition (finding Santa's footprints on Christmas morning) was passed down to a new generation, and everyone built a 7.5 foot-tall snow mouse in the front yard. Then I spent a wonderful new year's weekend hanging out with Morgan.

Two weeks away from my freelance projects has left me a bit behind, so there won't be much blogging this week. I'll be back soon to add the rest of the books I read in 2005 to the list.

I am content. I am happy. I hope that this new year brings all of us much joy. I suspect that it will.
